Pastor Cody Mansfield, his wife Jamie, and son Weston.
Pastor Cody Mansfield and his wife, Jamie, joined Friendship Free Will Baptist Church in August of 2009. After serving as Associate Pastor and Youth Director, Brother Cody took over the pastorate in August 2010, after the retirement of Pastor Curtis Lilly. He preached his first message as Pastor on September 5, 2010.
Cody Weston Mansfield was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 17, 1980. After his parents divorced, his family moved to Texas when he was six months old. They lived there until his was 5 years old. His family then moved to Arizona, where he lived until he graduated high school.
When he was twelve years old, his father committed suicide. As a result he became heavily involved with drugs and alcohol. After losing his best friend in a store robbery, Cody ventured further into drugs.
A few years after losing his father, Cody’s family started attending East Valley Free Will Baptist Church. Cody got involved with the youth group, but hadn’t given up his life of drugs and alcohol. One Sunday morning, the teens were headed to teen camp. They invited him to attend. He, reluctantly, decided to go. While there, the Lord starting working on his heart. Cody surrendered his heart and life to the Lord Jesus Christ. A year later, he answered the call to preach.
Cody’s pastor, Howard Gwartney, advised him to attend Southeastern Free Will Baptist College in Wendell, North Carolina. He learned about serving the Lord and made many friendships. He also met his wife, Jamie, who was a student at Southeastern as well. They were married in February of 2004 where they moved to Arizona. After living there for two years, they moved to Michigan, where they have been serving the Lord together. Jamie was born and raised in Greenville, North Carolina. She has been a wonderful asset to our church. Along with the many duties of being a pastor’s wife, Sister Jamie works alongside Pastor Cody running our Wednesday night Friendship Club. She is also a very talented musician playing either the piano or keyboard in our services.
Bro. Cody and Sister Jamie were blessed with their first child, Weston Ray, on February 1, 2010.
Our Pastor and his wife have a heart for the youth and families in our community. Their desire is to impact people with the life-changing truth of God’s Word.
